Springfield Park

Springfield Park sits in our ward and is accessible from Salter’s Lane North, Green Lane and Sparrowhall Drive. It is a large recreational area made up of mostly grass and includes a full size marked out football pitch as well as a 5 a-side pitch and a fixed play facilities area for children. It is used extensively by the community and residents of all ages for a wide range of recreational activities including games, cycling, walking and dog walking. Whinfield Residents Association is continually looking to improve the park whether this could be with better play equipment or improved seating, as well as keeping the area tidy. We are therefore always looking for volunteers to assist with this as well as listening to ideas to improve the park from our residents and members.

Due to the financial constraints facing our council and many others across the country, funding for this kind of work needs to be sourced from other organisations. Whinfield Residents Association actively looks to apply for funding for these kinds of projects.

Green Lane & bridleway.

Maintenance of the lane remains a ‘bone of contention’. In the past both the Church of England and Darlington Golf Club have considered registering an interest in the lane but have not done so due to the costs involved in maintaining the road and the hedges. The lane is currently lodged with the Land Registry as ‘undetermined’.
